Blog: How to set up a Blog Article in Contentstack

How to create a Blog Article

For creating blog articles you need to create the blog article itself and a blog category, in case the one you need is not available yet.

Basically, the handling with regard to the individual modules and content types is the same as for all web pages and content blocks.

Blog articles will appear in the Blog overview page automatically. No need to publish this page.

The blog overview page will be available with central blog articles in all local websites.

1. How to create a Blog Article

A blog article can be divided into 3 sections (see the image below).

  1. Blog article frame: This section is created when you create a “Blog article”.

    1. Back to overview link

    2. Share via section

    3. Primary category

    4. Title

    5. Date + Time to read

    6. Image

    7. Intro/Teaser text

  2. Content Block: This module contains the actual content.

    1. You create a regular Content Block (available for all web pages)

    2. Add this content block to the blog article “Choose existing entry”.

  3. “Footer”: This part is added by the system: It provides similar articles which may be of interest for the reader.

Blog article structure

Blog Article

  1. Go to “4: Create a Blog article - Blog Article” and create a new entry (see image below).

  2. Title*: This is the mandatory headline of the article.
The title should not be too long to be properly displayed in the breadcrumb navigation.

  3. URL: The URL is automatically created when entering a title, but can also be adjusted manually (as usual). The URL can be used to directly access the created blog article. This link is used when sharing the blog article.

  4. Intro/Teaser*: This field serves as a teaser text on the blog overview and blog detail pages.

  5. Publication date: The publication date is taken over automatically.

    1. If you provide a different date, this date will be displayed in the article and

    2. Used for sorting the article by date (descending) in the Blog overview page.

    3. If you plan to publish it later, you can add the planned date here and come back later for publishing.
The system will NOT publish it automatically at the chosen date!

If you localize an EMEA blog article, then publish it in its localized version, localized (translated) EMEA articles will always appear with the original EMEA publication date.

The reason for that is that we can only have one date per search entry, and it takes the one of the EMEA fallback.  It is technically not possible to change that.

  1. Main image*: The main image of the article also serves as the teaser image on

    1. the blog overview page,

    2. the similar articles component.

  2. Time to read: Propose a Time to read setting. It is shown in minutes. You can give any number between 0 and 100.
If the field is empty, “0 minutes” will be displayed on the article page.

  3. Blog Categories: Here the (previously created) blog categories will be added. The first category in the row is displayed as the primary category of the blog article (above the title), on the blog overview page, and in Similar Articles. In addition, all assigned categories are displayed at the bottom of the blog article.
Blog categories can be reordered, edited, and removed.

  4. Main Content*: Your actual content will be added here by adding a content block.
It is recommened to create the respective content block before to allow you to “Choose existing entry”.

  5. Save and Publish the Blog Article.

The Blog Article will appear in the Blog overview page immediately, on top of the list.

You don’t need to publish the overview page separately.

Central Blog article pages can be localised like regular web pages.
